Chrome browser extensions are being sold and injected with adware and/or malware. Browser extensions that used to be clean and good were purchased out by companies with bad intentions. If it was a popular extension with a huge number of users all of a sudden those companies could pick up a ton of helpful information by including following code by infusing ads into sites without you even knowing about it. Since these extensions redesign consequently, if someone else takes over and decides to control and chooses to change the code, you would never even know about it.
